Rayshaun Kizer Named the AFL’s Riddell Defensive Player of the Week

Los Angeles (April 19th, 2016) – The LA KISS are happy to announce that defensive back, Rayshaun Kizer has been awarded with the “Riddell Defensive Player of the Week” award, after his exceptional performance in Week 3 against the Cleveland Gladiators. This is the second weekly award for the LA KISS in the 2016 AFL season. In Week 1, Donovan Morgan earned the “Cutters Catch of the Week”.

“I am very happy for Kizer,” said LA KISS Head Coach Omarr Smith. “The award was well deserved. We expect Kizer to constantly play at a high level and hopefully he has more games like that down the road.”

Kizer’s versatility and experience gives him an edge as a defensive back.

During Saturday’s game in Cleveland, Kizer tallied 7.5 total tackles (6 solo) and a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown. Through Week 3, the seventh-year player is tied for second in the AFL with two interceptions and he is fifth in the league with 17.5 total tackles. In addition, Kizer’s 64 career interceptions, rank third in the AFL’s all-time leaderboard.

This is Kizer’s fifth time earning the “Riddell Defensive Player of the Week” award. He received this accolade twice in 2011 (Week 3 and Week 19) and once in 2014 (Week 19). Kizer most recently won the award last season after he had two interceptions and nine tackles in the LA KISS’ Week 12 overtime victory against the San Jose SaberCats.

This week, the LA KISS will travel to Orlando to face off against the undefeated Predators on Saturday, April 23rd at the Amway Center. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 pm (PST).
