ANAHEIM, Calif. (Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016)– The Arena Football League announced today that LA KISS wide receiver Donovan “Captain” Morgan has earned the 2016 Commissioner’s Award. This accolade recognizes an individual who has done considerable work to grow the game of Arena Football. Morgan was also awarded with Second Team All-Arena honors this season.

“Donovan has helped advance the game of Arena Football in every place he has played,” said LA KISS Head Coach, Omarr Smith. “In addition to being a fan-favorite here in LA, he has been a productive player in the AFL for many years. He has done an outstanding job of broadening the Arena Football and LA KISS brands.”

Since joining the LA KISS prior to the inaugural 2014 season, Morgan’s dependability, reliability and explosiveness made him a key figure in the re-

introduction of professional football to Los Angeles. He has appeared in all 53 games in LA KISS history and scored at least one touchdown in all but two match-ups. Furthermore, over the past two seasons, Morgan has found the end zone at least twice in 30 games, including 19 games where he recorded three or more scores.

In 2016, “Captain” Morgan returned for his third successful campaign in the LA KISS uniform and played a significant role in the LA KISS hosting their first postseason game in franchise history. The eight-year veteran from Louisiana-Lafayette was one of the AFL’s most consistent receivers, ranking third in the league with 41 receiving touchdowns, fifth with 1,462 receiving yards and sixth with 113 receptions. He racked up over 100 receiving yards eight times, including each of the final four games of the season.

Additionally this season, Morgan continued to ascend the AFL’s all-time leaderboards. He moved into the fifth position in the AFL’s all-time career touchdown leaderboard (290), climbed to the seventh all-time position in receiving yards (12,732) and ascended to the ninth all-time spot in receptions (907). Morgan also raised his career touchdown-to-interception percentage to 32, which is the 11th highest in AFL history.

Morgan holds both the single-season and career records in all three major receiving categories—receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. So far in his LA KISS career, Morgan has tallied 386 receptions for 5,414 yards and 122 touchdowns.
